Grand Seiko Spring Drive GMT for a New Era with Ceramic Bezel
This model is equipped with the third mechanism, Spring Drive, which is powered by the mainspring used in mechanical watches, but offers the same high precision as quartz watches, as well as a GMT display function.
The second hand of a watch equipped with Spring Drive does not "tick" the time, but moves smoothly over the dial. The sweeping movement of the second hand created by this ingenious mechanism expresses the Japanese aesthetic sense that "time moves and flows.
In consideration of more active use, zirconia ceramic is used for the bezel material. Zirconia ceramics is a beautiful material with the highest strength and toughness among fine ceramics, and boasts excellent surface polishability. The bezel, which is the most vulnerable part of a wristwatch to scratches, can retain its original beauty for many years.
The 4 o'clock position crown is designed with practicality in mind, taking into account its volume, so that it does not interfere with the smooth movement of the wrist during active activities.

The 9R Spring Drive is a Grand Seiko original movement equipped with a completely new quartz regulating mechanism that precisely controls accuracy using an IC and a quartz oscillator, while being powered by the torque generated by the unwinding force of the mainspring of a mechanical watch.
It took more than 20 years from the conception to its development, and another five years to achieve performance worthy of the Grand Seiko crown, before it was born in 2004.
